Sustainable Future Forum

The Green for Growth Fund (GGF), advised by Finance in Motion, held its first Sustainable Future Forum in Frankfurt, Germany, on June 27, 2018. More than 250 innovators and leading industry experts convened to actively shape the future of green finance and green energy, contributing their expertise and innovative ideas to ensuring a greener economy as well as raising awareness to support the transformational process.

Panelists included Simon Braaksma, Senior Director of Group Sustainability at Philips; Anton Koller, Divisional President of Danfoss District Energy; Shona Tatchell, CEO and Founder of Halotrade, a fintech focused on the delivery of sustainable supply chain financing; and Ahmed Zahran, CEO and Co-Founder of KarmSolar, Egypt’s largest private off-grid solar energy integrator. The forum was also enriched by keynote addresses from Heike Backofen-Warnecke of the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation (BMZ); Per Espen Stoknes, Director at the Center for Green Growth; and Barbara Buchner, Executive Director at the Climate Policy Initiative.

A special highlight was provided by the finalists of the new clim@ competition – also powered by the GGF – as they pitched their green business ideas in the final round. The judges were hard pressed to select a winner from among the impressive candidates. Ultimately, the grand prize was awarded to Dutch biotechnology enterprise Inspidere for their revolutionary and sustainable method of recycling livestock waste into cellulose fibers, paper, and bioplastics.

GGF Chairperson of the Board Christopher Knowles said of the event: “Champions of the green transformation came together to offer in-depth insights from a broad range of different perspectives. This committed group shares the common goal of accelerating a transformation into a green and sustainable future.”
